Questions Families Ask
Honest answers for families planning a memorial tribute video.
Planning a tribute while you are grieving is a lot to carry. These are the questions families ask us most. If yours is not here, send us a message and one of our team will answer.
Are you a funeral director? Your questions are answered on our funeral home FAQ.
Making the Tribute
What is a tribute video?
A tribute video tells the story of a life through photographs, home video and music. It is shown at a funeral, memorial or celebration of life, and the family keeps it afterwards. Most run between three and eight minutes.
Can you include our own family video clips?
Yes. Beyond our montage packages, we edit your family's own video clips, recorded messages and special requests into the tribute. When a family has something particular in mind, we build a custom film around it.
Do you film the service?
No. We are a post-production studio: we edit and finish, and we never film or send a crew. Every tribute is made from the photos, video and recordings your family already has, plus licensed material we source when a gap needs filling.
We are honoring someone who is still with us. Can you help?
Yes. If your loved one is in hospice care or nearing the end of life, a living tribute is something we make here, with the same care as a memorial.
If you are marking a happy milestone in their life, our sister studio The Montage Maven makes those films. It is the same team, and their milestone tributes page is made for exactly that.
Can we make the video ourselves?
Yes. Create is our own online tool for making a memorial video yourself. You add the photographs and choose the music, and we build the film for you. It starts at $99, and you need no account to begin. You watch the whole film before you decide to buy, so every sale is final.
If you would rather our editors make it, that is what we do every day.
Photos, Video and Music
How many photos do we need?
Most families send between 60 and 120. Fewer works, and so does more. What matters most is the spread: childhood through to recent years, with the people who mattered most appearing more than once.
What if our photos are old, faded or damaged?
Send them anyway. A good deal can be improved. Our sister brand Pixel 360 Media restores photographs and footage for exactly this reason. We will tell you what can be helped, and what cannot, before you commit to anything.
Can relatives send photos from different places?
Yes. We can give you a link so relatives near and far can add their own photos and videos. Nothing has to go through one person.
Can you convert our tapes, film or discs?
No. We no longer offer any kind of media conversion or digitizing. If your memories are still on tape, film or disc, they need to be digitized first by a specialist, and we are glad to point you to one. Once you have digital files, we take it from there.
What music can we use?
You can browse our song library and choose the music right in your portal. Our library is licensed for your family's private use, so there is nothing to sort out.
If you have a particular well-known song in mind, we can use it when you hold the rights to it for your private use. We cannot license commercial songs for you.
Timing, Drafts and Payment
How quickly can it be ready?
Tell us the date of the service when you first get in touch, and we will tell you honestly whether we can meet it. We work as fast as we can, and your video is always ready before the service.
If you can, send the photos about four weeks before. If the service is sooner than that, we agree a date together and work to it. Short notice is normal in this work, and we plan for it. We would rather say no than take on a tribute we cannot deliver in time.
How do we follow the project?
In your own private online portal, opened from a link we send you, with no password to remember. You upload your photos and videos there, watch each draft, message us, approve, pay, and download the finished film. Everything is in one place.
Can we make changes after we see it?
Yes. You watch each draft in your portal and pin notes to the exact moment you want changed. Three drafts are included, and before each one you can send as many notes as you like, within the scope of your project.
Almost every family finds three is plenty. Anything beyond that is covered in your proposal.
When do we pay, and when do we receive the video?
Your agreement sets out the payment terms before any work begins. The finished video is released once it is paid in full.
Will the price change after you quote it?
No. Whatever we quote, we honor, even if our prices change after we send your proposal.
After the Service
Can we keep and share the video after the service?
Yes. It is yours. Families share it with relatives who could not travel, keep it, and come back to it on anniversaries.
What happens to our photos and the video afterwards?
The finished video is yours to keep. Download it and save copies in at least two places. Your private portal stays open for 45 days after delivery, so you can download the video and see your invoice and project history.
After that we do not promise a retention period. We keep material as long as we reasonably can, so if you need something later, just ask. We will tell you whether we still have it, and retrieval is a paid service, quoted before any work begins.
About Us
Who is behind Tribute Montage?
Tribute Montage is part of Dvideo Inc., a video post-production company in Westchester, New York, with decades of experience. Each of our sister brands specializes in its own kind of film: The Montage Maven for celebration and milestone montages, Pixel 360 Media for restoring video, photos and audio, and Dvideo Productions for corporate video. If your project fits one of them better, we will say so and introduce you.
Where are you, and do we need to come in?
We are located in Westchester, New York, and serve families nationwide through our fully remote platform. Nothing needs to be shipped, and nobody needs to travel. The address on our site is a mailing address, not a drop-off point.
Do you work with funeral homes?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Funeral homes work with us so families are looked after without adding to their staff's workload. Directors have their own portal for ordering and tracking, and their questions are answered on our funeral home FAQ.
Still Have a Question?
Send us a message and one of our team will get back to you. Tell us the date of the service, and we will tell you honestly what we can do.
